Screw all sample container tops on firmly
Wrap the samples in cellulose wadding or cotton wool to absorb any leakage
Place in a self-sealing plastic bag with two pockets
Insert the request form and any other paperwork into the secondary pocket
of the sample bag
Please make clear any serious infection hazards that may be associated
with the sample
Pack the sample in either an approved sample transport container or
a strong cardboard box with a full depth lid and seal with self-adhesive
tape
Padded envelopes alone are not acceptable and their use contravenes
Post Office regulations
For emergency assays, hospital transport, courier or
taxi services may be used. For non-urgent assays the sample may be forwarded
by First Class post. Post Office regulations specifically forbid sending
pathological samples by Second Class letter or parcel post. The sender
must meet all transport costs.
