Welcome to the Cardiff Toxicology Laboratories


The Cardiff Toxicology Laboratories are based within the Medical Biochemistry and Immunology department at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, one of the largest NHS organisations in the UK.


Laboratory operating hours are 08:30-17:00 Monday to Friday.

Please note that as of 21st January 2017 the laboratory does not offer a routine weekend service. Please call to discuss if you have an urgent request for ethylene glycol, methanol, thiopental or paraquat.

The department is fully accredited to ISO 15189 by the United Kingdon Accreditation Service (UKAS).

Our accreditation is limited to those activities described on our UKAS schedule of accreditation
The toxicology laboratory has applied for an extension to scope for the following:

- GCMS (Shimadzu) for the analysis of Mitotane and Perhexiline

- GC (Shimadzu) for the analysis of Thiopental

- Removal of Sulphonylurea screen
